Ok, just one more post from File It Under. (Yes, I like this blog, obviously.)
If any type of discrimination by race, sex, religion or creed is illegal in government dealings, then why are these laws still on the books?
Just asking.
This is going to get me sent to the principal again, isn't it?
One example (of Minnesota law) from the page he links to:
The commissioner of human services may make grants to authorized child-placing agencies that provide services to minority children in out-of-home placements. Various support services include coordinated child welfare and mental health services to minority families, and information, counseling, and support groups to assist minority children approaching age 18 in setting permanent goals for independent living.
Now, just suppose it had been worded like this instead:
DISCLAIMER: These examples are provided to illustrate absurdity by being themselves absurd. In no way do they represent the views of this blog or its proprietor. Don't go telling people how racist I am or I shall have no choice but to launch legal frippery and unpleasantness upon your house and children, to the third generation.
Ok, now:
The commissioner of human services may make grants to authorized child-placing agencies that provide services to non-minority children in out-of-home placements. Various support services include coordinated child welfare and mental health services to non-minority families, and information, counseling, and support groups to assist non-minority children approaching age 18 in setting permanent goals for independent living.
Hmmm? And what about this one from Alabama:
At least one-half of the board of trustees for Alabama State University shall be from the prevailing minority population of the state according to the last or any succeeding federal census.
What if it had been worded like this:
At least one-half of the board of trustees for Alabama State University shall be from the prevailing white/Caucasian population of the state according to the last or any succeeding federal census.
Pretty disgusting, right?
Then aren't they just as disgusting the way they are actually worded?
