Fellow LLP-er Left-Brain Female points us to an amazing series of photographs of New Orleans that takes us from pre-Katrina preparations until the photographer, Alvaro R. Morales Villa, leaves the city four days later.
You just have to see these. Being quite behind on my reading (and other things), I had intended to check them out quickly and then move on. Instead, I became mesmerized, unable to stop clicking through to the next picture until I saw them all. And, perhaps better than the pictures themselves is the photographer's commentary, from which you will doubtless learn a few things they didn't tell you on TV.
UPDATE: Apparently the photographic series referenced above has been down for several days, and I don't know whether it will come back or has been posted elsewhere. This is a shame as it was extremely informative, and was a good example of how the new media is beginning to replace traditional sources of news.
ANOTHER UPDATE: Very, very good news! I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to...uh, wait...what I mean is, the photo gallery referenced above is still alive, only moved to another location. Thanks to Silvia Morales (I don't know how she found this little blog, but I'm glad she did) in the comments.
Alvaro's Gallery contains not only the NOLA photos, but a great deal of his other work as well, including many pre-Katrina photos. Be sure to see it. The post-Katrina series I was talking about is here, but please don't stop there--see the rest too.
