I didn't realize they needed a landing strip

I mean, I thought they had VTOL and all.  Up and down.

Via The Steel Deal we discover that the Puerto Rican town of Lajas wants to build a landing strip to "welcome" visitors from outer space.  (No link to the story yet.)

LAJAS, Puerto Rico (AP) - People in this sleepy hamlet are so sure they have been receiving other-worldly visitors, they want to build a UFO landing strip to welcome them.

A bright green sign along a lonely country road in southwestern Puerto Rico proudly displays a silhouette of a flying saucer and two words: "Extraterrestrial Route."

Most Puerto Ricans laughed when a horse farmer installed the sign on his property at the request of Reynaldo Rios, a local elementary school teacher who says he's been communicating with alien visitors to this U.S. territory since he was a child.

Rios, a 39-year-old with a goatee and a shock of dark hair, won't be ignored. With the blessing of a local government desperate for tourist dollars, he's dedicated himself to building the UFO landing strip.

And this guy's a teacher.  Of young children.

Steel says, "I am willing to bet hard currency that this WILL involve U.S. tax payer dollars."

I think they all have heads shaped like pyramids. Oh, you don't have that part of the article here - Rios is putting pyramid-shaped structures along the landing field because he knows extraterrestrials are attracted to the pyramid shape. Methinks they have been chawing on too many coca leaves. Although, now I think on it, I recall sitting in a car listening to White Rabbit with a bunch of friends and smoking pot. We were groovin' man, and diggin' it when we all quit nodding our heads to the beat and got real quiet. It took about a minute - which seemed like an hour due to the pot - before one of us finally said, "Hey, does anyone see those red lights?" Being that we ALL had been seeing those red lights hovering on the dark horizon for a while and privately thinking, 'da**, this is some good sh*t', we got real scared all at once and hauled ass out of there. We were in a Mustang..... all crowded up and panicked. The girl sitting in the middle in the front really banged up her crotch on that cool divider-thing between the even cooler bucket seats during our wild escape from the clumpy field we were in so the cops wouldn't find us....... GO ASK ALIIIIIICE.....
