It gets pretty da... er, dang hard sometimes to avoid profanity when I post.
Show me one thing...one freakin' way that Republicans have cut spending since being in power. Just one. Pretty please.
And that's not even mentioning this, the most idiotic statement of the year made by a government official (Tom Delay, in this case):
House Majority Leader Tom DeLay said yesterday that Republicans have done so well in cutting spending that he declared an "ongoing victory," and said there is simply no fat left to cut in the federal budget.
No fat, huh? Hand me the paring knife machete. I'll show you fat.
Now, one person thinks that Delay is being politically astute:
Delay set up the entire congress, (R) and (D)! No one in congress can come forward and say that Delay is false without offering up some examples. I think you will notice the silence from both houses. Note that Delay also said "My answer to those that want to offset the spending is sure, bring me the offsets, I'll be glad to do it. But nobody has been able to come up with any yet,".
Even if this was his intent, he still told the biggest whopper I've heard in a while, and I can't accept this as an excuse to lie like that. Even if correct, what good does it do? So what if he "set up" Congress--how does this help matters? What has he accomplished? On the other hand, making a glaringly false statement like Delay made also hurts, and badly, if only because it discredits Republican leadership.

UPDATE: By the way, thanks for the encouragement, Rob. That sort of thing actually seems to help.
UPDATE: Dave at Short Final, Cleared to Land says, "STOP! Please just STOP! You're wasting fantastic April Fools Day material!"
UPDATE AGAIN: TF Stern, in the comments, corrects me by pointing out one area in which the Pack actually has cut spending, and by quite a bit, too:
Unfortunately it was MY spending that they cut. I have had to look at my spending habits a little more carefully to make sure I stay within MY budget and income. I sure wish all those in elected office would do the same.
A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse (money-benefits) from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses...
