Well, it seems that I’m a victim of my own smug over-confidence.
My back-up “strategy” was considerably more complex than the average bear’s, and I thought myself unlikely to suffer a near-total loss of my recent data.
That is, until I experienced a near-total loss of my recent data.
Which has caused me to completely re-evaluate my back-up strategy. It now includes online “cloud” storage, although I’m having considerable logistical problems getting it to work correctly and reliably. Once those are worked out, and I’ve had sufficient time to upload all my data at the blazing speed of 1.2Mb/s
(as Mazda says, “zoom zoom zoom!”) that I think is attributable to my ISP, not my online storage service, then I’ll feel much better.
In the meantime, what this means to Forward Biased is that all the drawings I had collected for future publication have to be re-drawn, and it will be from scratch and/or memory, or from reference to original third-party materials (when it’s not stealing, that is).
So now, instead of being due to a bit of transient discouragement, my slowness in posting is due to having little to post. Until I draw and write it again, of course.
I have much older material, about two years old, that was backed up to a different location, so that I didn’t experience a total loss. These materials will be quite useful in rebuilding my base, although said rebuilding will still be painstakingly slow. But so be it. Life goes on, and I certainly intend to go on with it!
